Due to the draw in last Sunday’s second semi-final, our County Senior Final against either Tubbercurry or Tourlestrane will now take place on Sunday, October 22nd at 4pm. This will be the first time that our men’s team will contest the Senior Final since 2010. Manager Shane King, captain Martin Doherty and all the players and members of the backroom team have put in a huge effort this year to reach the final and it is hoped that a large number of supporters will turn out at Markievicz Park to support the team.

In the lead up to the final Kieran McGill & Jimmy Casey have been busy flooding the area with flags, bunting, car flags, headbands and beanie hats. They still have some of these items available and they can be purchased by contacting either Kieran or Jimmy. It is hoped to have the Eastern Harps area decked out in as much green & white as possible in the lead up to the final but also to keep the flags out for both our boys and girls minor teams who also have County Finals of their own to be played in the coming weeks.

On Sunday last, despite an excellent performance where they held the lead for long periods of the game, our U-16 girls lost out in their County Final to Shamrock Gaels on a score line of 3-11 to 2-08. Great credit is due to the girls for getting to the final and putting in the performance that they did and we also thank their coaches Deirdre Gillen, Eamonn Clarke and Neil Molloy for their dedication throughout the year.

The latest draw in our Buy-A-Block fundraiser for the new clubhouse development which is ongoing at our grounds in Keash took place last Saturday evening. The winner of the item of garden equipment sponsored by East Brothers & Gardencare was Tara McDermottroe, Ballinafad. The main draw for over €4,500 worth of prizes takes place in November. The new clubhouse is proceeding well with some pictures of progress recently uploaded to our social media accounts but more funds are still needed to keep the project on track and anybody who would like to purchase some Buy-A-Block tickets can do so in most local business’ or through our website. We also thank the members of our U-16 girls team for their efforts in selling a large number of tickets in Ballymote last Saturday.

Bingo in Gurteen Hall in association with Eastern Harps continues every Friday night. The jackpot for this coming Friday is €1,900 in 47 calls or less, with the lotto jackpot 1 standing at €1,000 and jackpot 2 at €500

On Sunday last, Boyle GAA Club honoured the late John Joe Nerney by unveiling a mural of him and dedicating the naming of their stand to his memory. John Joe is very fondly remembered in our area as he was the trainer of our first team to win a County Senior Championship in 1975.

All in Eastern Harps were greatly saddened to hear of the recent passing of Mairead Davey. We extend our deepest sympathies to Mairead’s husband Sean and brother John, who were opponents of ours on the pitch on many occasions, and to all members of the Davey and Marren families.
