Our minor boys won the minor A championship on Saturday after defeating Curry on a score line of 1:15 to 0:05 which now sees a date with Balla in the Connacht semi-final on Friday November 3rd in the Connacht Centre of Excellence in Ballyhaunis. A determined James O’Hara got 8 points and a Ciarán Hannon 2nd half goal meant the cup was going east. The score line was nowhere near as one sided at half time. It was blow for blow in terms of point scoring as Eastern Harps led at the break 0:05 to 0:04 and after 20 seconds of the restart it appeared it would stay like that as Curry won the throw in and went straight down and scored a point to leave it 5 points apiece. Remarkably that would be the only score Curry would score for the remainder of the game as Eastern Harps took control. Some excellent team work and off the shoulder running put us 4 points up. A fisted effort for a point dropped short but the ever lively Ciarán Hannon was on hand to make sure the green flag was raised. The result was never in doubt after that and the sharp shooting from free taker James O’Hara kept the score board ticking over for Eastern Harps. This was the first time since 2004 that we have won the minor A championship. Congratulations to the lads and the management team of Michael Hannon, Paul Dwyer and Paul McGovern. The Cup that was presented to our captain Evan Lavin was originally presented to the Sligo County Board in 1973 by Dr. Taheny. Little did he know that his grandson Tomás 44 years later would be on the winning team to receive the trophy. I am sure he would be very proud. Scorers were James O’Hara 0:08, Ciarán Hannon 1:00, Ciarán Dorrian,  0:02, Shawn O’Hara 0:02, Luke Kielty, Bryan Molloy, Tomás Taheny 0:01 each.

Our minor girls are also due to play in the Connacht series but there is no details as of yet.

Scór na nÓg will be held towards the end of November. It was formally launched by an Uachtarán. Aogán Ó Fearghail in the Aurivo Auditorium. The All Ireland Finals of both Scór na nÓg and Senior Scór will be held in Sligo this year. This is a competition that features the best of Irish traditional song and dance as well as Question Time and light hearted drama.  Anyone looking for more information please contact Mai  on 086 8369437 or Annette on 087 1348811.
